Tortuguero from San Jose

Reading the forums it seems you need to go on a tour to this area from San Jose. Does anyone know of any good tour companies, not too expensive that can be booked online for 3 days 2 nights

Cheers

Some lodges in Totuguero provide transportation round trip SJ. One is Pachira Lodge, which is quite new:

Please note that the rates include transportation.

You should also be able book a trip from whatever hotel you are using in SJ. Most of the prices I have seen for 2 nights start at about $250pp with the transportation.

We just returned from two weeks in Costa Rica and Tortuguero remains a primary highlight of our trip. Far less developed and tons of animals.

We are firmly convinced that in no small part this was due to our tour guides Fran and Modesto Watson who can be found at www.tortuguerocanals.com and operate under the name The Riverboat Francesca.

We did three days and two nights and they picked us up at our hotel in San Jose, drove us to Moin, by Puerto Limon, took us on their boat for over three hours to Tortuguero where we saw tons of animals enroute. They checked us into our hotel at Laguna Lodge (adequate) took us out on a early morning tour the next day, left us at leisure for the afternoon and then we did a tour just before nightfall.

We returned to San Jose the next day looking at wildlife enroute.

For all this, accommotion and 8 meals, we paid $265 USD per person which we considered eminently reasonable.

We liked especially that, unlike most of the lodges, we were not in big boats with tons of people, and that we did things in a more customized and leisurely way.

Both they and their staff were warm and Modesto quite funny.

If we sound like fans, we are.
