My family and I are visiting Puerto Viejo in mid-October and will be traveling with 2 young children (1 and 3 years old). We are an adventurous family and have been to CR before but this will be our first time on the caribbean coast AND it will be the first time bringing our bambinos. Are there any activities/tours that are safe for small children besides the obvious (beach, jaguar rescue center, hiking)? We are interested in hiking, maybe a tour at one of the indigenous reservations, swimming holes, waterfalls, perhaps a river tour in a dugout? Also, would you advise against any of the carnival celebrations (during the day)? Wasn't sure how safe that would be with kids.
