Cahuita National Park from port

We will be arriving at Puerto Limon on a cruise ship in mid December. Is there public transportation near the port to Chauita National Park? Are taxi's by the port? At the park back to the port? If so, what might I expect for a price? Is there transportation from the park to the village of Chauita? Are there tour operators in Chautia to the park that may have a snorkling tour? We port early and need to be back on the ship by 3:00. I don't know if this is something we can do on our own or if I really should book a tour through the ship or a tour operator in Limon. Any suggestions, information, or advice is appreciated.

There are several local buses going from Limon to Cahuita daily. Better option will be taking a taxi, there will be many near the cruise ship terminal, as also several tour companies offering a day at Cahuita. The entrance to the Cahuita NP is just at the end of the village of Cahuita (itself a small town, maybe 15 min walking side to side). At the entrance to the park there are usually guides offering both guided walks and snorkeling tours by boat (only snorkeling from boat is allowed in NP). It is approx. 1 hour driving from Limon to Cahuita. It can be done on your own but for more relaxed day take a tour.

The best is to have a van waiting for you guys at the dock...then drive to Cahuita about 45 minutes...then into the park and try some great snorkeling...or even a visit to The Sloth Sanctuary!

Check out Gecko Trail Adventures. If you email them, if you happen to not see what you'd like, they will work with you. They are out of Puerto Viejo, just south of Cauhuita.

Have you ever heard the term "fresh off the boat"? There's a reason that phrase exists. You'll be better off arranging something in advance and it's reasonably likely it will cost you less in the end. Either through the boat or as Kaybaybay suggests Gecko Trail Adventures is a very reliable fairly priced operator in the southern Caribbean.
