First time to CR

I am planning a trip with my 3 older kids (19,19 and 21) and my parents (65 and 70) Planned for May 22-29 (flexible on days) I work for airline so where we fly into does not matter but would like to fly ino more assesible airport. Trip is primarily to take my dad sport fishing (his dream trip) in Tamarindo. We are open to any activities (zipline. rafting and animal watching would be favorites) I have not planned on renting a car (kinda afraid to drive there)

By all means fly onto Liberia if Tamarindo is a destination, you may want to head for Arenal for a few days and fly out of SJO.

Good advice from Cubanon, Liberia is a much better airport if Tamarindo is the goal. I would also recommend a couple nights at Arenal. You can do some fresh water fishing for Rainbow Bass before heading to the coast for the BIG ONES. I love fishing lake Arenal, in a boat with the volcano looming over you, its one of those "Look Where I Am" moments....

Agree with Cubanon regarding flying into LIR and out of SJO or vice versa.

LIR is one hour from Tamarindo.

I just came back from CR, flying into SJO, hiring a private driver to take us to Arenal (hear there is great fishing on Lake Arenal). We then headed to Monteverde before hiring a private driver to take us to Tamarindo.

You're right about not wanting to drivel. If you are traveling with four people a private driver is as cheap as a shuttle, so with over four, you're ahead in transfer costs, plus you get to set up pick-up time that fits your schedule, have lesser people in your vehicle and avoid driving on the bad roads with lack of signage so you know where you're going.
