Places to eat?

Hello, will be staying at Tree Houses Hotel and Los Lagos while in this area and wanted to get some recommendations for places to eat while here. Doesn't have to be upscale just good tasting food and family friendly (traveling with 15 & 11 year old). Thank you!

We really enjoyed Soda Viquez in la fortuna. Lovely authentic family run feel, nice relaxed atmosphere, and 3 tasty courses for $11!

Roadadvisor is right on with his choices. Soda La Prada is definitely a good place to eat for reasonable prices. Don Rufino's is one of the better restaurants in Costa Rica. We had a fabulous meal here, but it is a little on the pricey side. Another place that we were completely surprised with the quality of the food was La Ventanas at the Springs Resort and Spa. Both the food and the view was impressive, but once again, it is a little on the pricey side. Los Nenes was pretty good, but we felt was overpriced for what we got. We were disappointed in Soda Visquez, but it could have been the selections that we made. We found Las Brasitas to be good for the price. There are a lot of good reviews for La Choza de Laurel but I avoid this place as I got food poisoning here on a trip several years ago.

My favorites and family friendly environment and on the pocket book:

Lava Lounge (main road next to Alamo)

Gecko Gourmet (across from Alamo)

Soda La Hormiga (by Mega Super & the bus station)-for local food at the cheapest prices in town

NEW: Wave Cafe next to Wave Expeditions (behind the church)

La Parada-it's open 24/7 the prices are good, the food is "good" not great-across from the park

La Cascada-great food, good prices, across from the park across from Banco Nacional

I think that the most budget friendly thing you can do is buy items at the grocery store for lunches, snacks, sodas, drinks...that will save you a ton as it definitely adds up with a family of 4!

PS you'll all LOVE Tree Houses...the property is amazing and your hosts great! ENJOY!

A lot of good recommendations above. I also like Delicatessen Restaurant located near Magic Mountain Hotel. Good food, nice people and reasonable prices.

La Choza Del Laurel in Fortuna had the best casado that we had during our entire trip. Nenes was the best ceviche we had, but we were disappointed by the rest of our meal. We also really enjoyed Punto Fusion. We weren't planning on going there, but the chef sold us on it when he gave us a sample of his ceviche on the street and we ended up loving everything we ate there. Highly recommend it!.
