Balsa whitewater rafting or tenorio

We are planning a trip to Costa Rica in December. We have 2 children (11 and 16 years old). We want to do some rafting. I am concerned that the Balsa trip may be to tame & the Tenorio too wild... any advice

Thanks

Joanne

The Rio Tenorio is a pretty wild class IV river. I'm not 100%, but pretty sure there is a minimum age requirement of 13 years old. If not, there should be IMO. The Balsa is a little tamer, but a fun river. You could also get lucky with the Rio Sarapiqui if conditions are right. They usually are in December.

As a former river guide...the best is to have the guides to see the kids...it is not a rule based on age...since all kids are not the same...Balsa is a kind of boring river...Tenorio is nicer...

Sarapiqui is not a good option...most of the time very low water volume...not fun at all..
