white water rafting and canopy tours

We will be in La Fortuna for 4 nights in mid November and are looking to white water raft and do a canopy tour, we are having trouble deciding where to go? We would probably be happy with a class lll , something exciting and nothing that slows down too much, any advice where?

Also we want to do a canopy tour that has the longest, highest canopies...who does the superman one?

Is there anything else to do in the area that should not be missed? The waterfalls? night hikes? the hot springs?

Any advice would be great!

The longest and highest canopy course is Sky Adventures.

You can raft on class II and III on the Rio Balsa. The Rio Sarapiqui is more of a class III river, but not always open due to water levels. The Rio Toro is a good class III and IV river, but obviously more challenging. There are several operators in the area offering these rivers.

For hot springs, Ecotermales is a favorite of many on the forum. Personally I like Tabacon a little more. Ecotermales is smaller and they restrict crowd size. Tabacon is larger, but has more natural surroundings in the back area.

I would recommend checking out La Roca Canyoning for another activity. Its a great tour that involves rappelling down rainforest waterfalls (no experience necessary). It also has a zipline, hanging bridge and small Tarzan swing.

Out of Arenal, the Toro is considered Class III-IV and the Balsa class II-III. Rivers should be pretty full late November (end of the rainy season). Both are fun and scenic.

The two best operators are Desafio Adventures and Wave Expeditions.

There are also two excellent canyoning tours run by Desafio and another by Pure Trek. Both are great, and great fun.

Sky Tram has the longest and fastest zip lines in the area. The only Superman zip line I've done is down around Manuel Antonio, at Mid World.

Search this site and you'll find plenty about the various hot springs.

Nite hikes are great, do at least one.

The La Fortuna Waterfall is beautiful, and a good little hike, w/ a nice place to cool off at the bottom. The public swimming hole downstream, just off the road, is also a great place to hang out
