Transportation from Buena Vista Hotel

I am planning to stay one night in Hotel Buena Vista. Now does anyone know if it is possible to grab an interbus to Arenal from there? Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated!

FunTrip2006,

Firstly, rent a 4x4 if you can and are willing to drive rough dirt roads filled with potholes. Our friends had a flat tire from drive for just 4 days to give ya an idea. Otherwise, you can rely on the Interbus as you already have reservations.

You can do all of these independently by emailing or calling for reservations. You save a bit more money and know exactly what you are getting by doing it yourself. Check out frommers.com for specific contact info.

if I didn't include below.

Here are the must-do's:

in ARENAL:

Do Pure Trek Canyoning (puretrek.com), where you repel down 5 amazing waterfalls. They will provide transportation for free if you ask for it. Have the Pure Trek people drop you off afterwards at the Tabacon Hot Springs where you can soak and just hang at the hotspring pools, these 2 activities will take a full day.

On 2nd day, take a white-water rafting trip down the Sarapequi river with the Aguavas Bravas company www.aguas-bravas.co.cr

(its the most scenic and cleanest river in all of CR, where 21 kinds of fishes live). This company has knowledgeable, friendly, and fun guides. They also include transportation, a beautiful fruits break and a nice lunch. You don't even have to know how to swim for this.

That night, take a taxi or drive (your hotel can arrange taxi for under $30) to the closest point at the base of the Volcano for a night view of the lava flow, only if its a clear night.

In MONTEVERDE: Do the Original Canopy (canopytour.com) and hang/zip through the forest tree tops like Tarzan over 120 meters high. Then, if that doesn't give you a rush, do the Sky Trek (skytrek.com), where you zip through clouds.

If that's not your kind of thing, you can do the less scary Sky Walk (skywalk.co.cr), where you just walk on hanging bridges over jungle/forest.

Be sure to dress warm, with a jacket for Monteverde. Layers are even better because the weather changes quite a bit from day to night. Do the ATV tour through dirt roads and fields in Monteverde where you can race your friends and get dirty.

Hike the Monteverde Cloud Reserve (www.cct.or.cr) or take a night tour to see animals. This is a must!

At night, check out the frog museum. They are open til 8pm. Most of the 25 kinds of frogs are nocturnal.

You will be completely exhausted from all the crazy day trips, so, you must end your trip at one of the beaches and try surfing. Playa Tamarindo's got a good combination of surfing, nightlife and r&r. Have an awesome time!

Important question: how are you getting to Monteverde from Arenal (I'm assuming)?

I recommend the Taxi-Boat-Taxi, its faster and more comfortable than taxi-boat-horse.

here's the link to book this: monteverdetours.com or the Desafio Expeditions.
