Confused about localities

I will be visiting Shanghai with a group of 22 colleagues and am still a bit perplexed about which locality to stay in.

What exactly is:

- The Bund and North Bund

- Pudong - Lujiazui & Expo

- Huangpu - People Square & South Bund

Is Puxi a locality or the just the name of the Dam ?

We will be there for a 1 day meeting and then 2 days excursion / city tours etc which we have not planned yet.

We would love to stay at a hotel that gives a good view of the sea / skyline.

Will appreciate some guidance please.

1. Re: Confused about localities

The city of Shanghai is divided by a river. One side (east) is called Pudong, the other side (west) is called Puxi. FYI, "dong" means east and "xi" means west and the "pu" comes from the Huangpu river. Most of the tourist attractions are on the Puxi side. The Pudong side is mostly the business district and has all the skyscrapers.

The Bund is the road along the river on the west side. The boardwalk is there and so are some older buildings from the 1930s. People Square is a big park at the end of Nanjing est road. It is also the main subway stop where several subway lines intersect. At night you go to the Bund to watch the lighted buildings of Pudong across the river.

If you find a hotel with a view of the sea, it means that you are way ay too far from the city center.

I would suggest to get a guide book to do a little research first to see what you really want to see in two days.
