Starting Jan 1, 2013, Shanghai will join Beijing to allow 72 hr visa free visits for tourists from 45 countries.

That's great, finally more convenient for business traveller, but 72 hrs still too short. Better would be 7 days.

It is called a transit visa exemption so 7 days would be quite a transit.

Singapore passport holders can go to China for 15 days visa exempt. So 7 days would be a come down from current rules.

Yes and it is interesting to see Japan on the list of countries eligible to this visa exemption considering that Japanese do not need a visa for China.

im flying aircanada toronto to shanghai return my first ticket! and on my second ticket with china eastern return shanghai to siagon 68 hours later. does this still count for visa free visit? 2 seperate bookings. and on the way back china eastern to shanghai. 6hours wait then back to toronto with aircanda.

if you hold one of these countries' passport, you are ok since 68 is less than 72:

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and the US.

thanks for quick response! was not sure i bought 2 seperate tickets was not sure that it still counted. guess they just want to know your leaving in the alot time. ps it was cheaper to get to siagon this way. get a short vacation and long vacation. seen so many pictures of shanghai looks beautiful can't wait to see the city.

Yes you are fine. Just make sure that you print a copy of your ticket to Saigon to show them.
