what are the differences between D train and G train?

I will be going to shanghai from hangzhou on 1-Sep-2012 (Saturday) and would like to try bullet train. A friend told me that the first train is leaving around 10am (D train) but I saw from the website, there are some other trains leaving before 10am (G train). Which one is called bullet train? What are the difference between both trains? thank you

Both are HSR trains.(High speed railway).D trains travel below 300km/hr and G trains and C trains are capable of travelling more than 300km/hr up to 350km/hr.

G trains are high speed electric multiple units trainEMU.Top speed 350km/hr

D trains are top line train and its the first generation of HSR.Top speed at 252km/hr.

In Guangdong the D-trains are called "light rail" (qing gui) and they are more like a super fast bus inside as far as comfort goes. As Benny points out they are currently limited to 250 kph instead to the 300 kph promised when they first came in. Ideal for commuting distances.

Schedule is different since 20th Mar this year. Number of trains on Fri-Sun are more than that of other weekdays.

We did a trip on a D train, and also on a G train.

As already said, the G goes much faster--on our trips 305 kph versus 185 kph.

However, both were very comfortable and clean and efficient. The D train had its own very comfortable departure lounge at the station.

I really didin't see any differences, only that G trains are faster and more expensive than D trains.

Apart from price and speed, my limited understanding is that the G trains depart from Hongqiao station and the D trains, from Shanghai South.
