1 June - childrens day?

We will be in Shanghai on 1st June and I read somewhere that it is a public holiday for 'childrens day'. If this is the case will shops, tourist attractions etc be open or closed on this day. What type of events take place for this celebration? Thanks Catherine

I have been in China several time on June 1 and never noticed much of anything except maybe newspaper stories. Certainly nothing will be closed. There may be some events.

June 1 is Children's Day. Students in primay school will have one day off from school. All shops, parks and anything for kids will be open because this is simply a day for kids. As far as I can remember when I was a kid, this is the one of the best day of the year besides New Year Eve, birthday. Kids expect fun in parks and toy section of department stores during this day. Schools will organize some kind of activities as well.
