Duty free NZ or Fiji?

Hi, is it better to buy duty free alcohol in NZ or Fiji (for a one week holiday in Fiji)? Also I have read that bottled water is available duty free in Fiji - is it worth buying at the airport, or easy enough to buy at Denarau? Thanks.

1. Re: Duty free NZ or Fiji?

Having done this over 30 times now the best prices and range of goods is best bought in NZ. Arriving in Nadi there are two duty free shops with mainly alcohol on sale (including Bounty Rum, which cannot be purchased in NZ duty free). Departing from Fiji there is are extensive areas devoted to Duty Free - full alcohol and cosmetic ranges, plus the usual other goods found in most Duty Frees - but make-up and perfumes etc are more expensive than in NZ. Fiji Water is available at the Airport and at Denarau (but both these outlets are more expensive than a local supermarket) On travelling to Denarau get the taxi driver to stop at say Jet Point (opens 8am - very large supermarket in Martintar - halfway beween airport and turnoff to Denarau) for water, coke and other snacky supplies. I note you are from Melbourne - will you be 'in transit' via NZ - if so, not sure if you'll be able purchase duty free goods.
