First trip to Orange Beach...when to go and where to stay?

We are looking to take our girls, ages 5 and 3, to OB. We were looking at Thanksgiving break. Is this an ok time to go? Now that we have a kindergartener, we are hesitant to take her out of school for a trip but we will so if there is another time that you love and might be cheaper, please chime in!

Now for lodging...we are looking for a 2-bedroom condo on the beach. The little one still naps so we need to be able to get back to the room quickly. And the complex needs to have a pool. We would like to spend under $250/night.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanksgiving is a fine time to go to Orange Beach/Gulf Shores and the weather is usually pretty nice then. The Gulf and outdoor pools will probably be too cold for swimming (but the weather should be ok for playing and walking on the beach), so make sure to pick a place with an indoor heated pool. Our favorite time is October when prices are low but the water temps are warm, and some families come down at that time during their school's fall break. Prices drop dramatically in the Fall and you should be able to find a great condo well below your budget during either of these time periods. You may want to look at some 3 bedrooms as well since they tend to have a lot more living space in addition to the extra bedroom. A good place to start your search is by looking at the various Phoenix condo buildings (most have a large indoor pool) and checking out the deals offered by Brett-Robinson, the real estate company that manages them. Then also take a look at VRBO.com to view other condos that fit your criteria.

I agree with Beachfan, love October...can't wait, 6 weeks until we arrive! I would take advantage of your child being in kindergarten and taking her out of school while young. My dad who was a principal always thought it was fine taking kids out of school for a "family time" vacation. Check out VRBO 34863 silver Beach ground floor unit,, looks great and reasonable, though no indoor pool so would only work for Oct. Visit.

We LOVE Orange Beach! In fact we'll be going back in 2 weeks. Our most favorite place to stay right on the beach is Sea chase.A beautiful resort with great amenities. Many of the condos have 2nd bedrooms with twin beds for the little ones. Go to seachase.com and search the 2 BR condos. Rates are shown on condo listings. If you register on their website you will receive a variety of discounts during the year.
