Is Melaka worthwhile for a family with small kids?

Hiya,

We are Aussie expats based in S'pore. We have 2 boys aged 7 and 3 yo. We'd like to do a short trip (2 nights) to somewhere in Malaysia ... apart from Johor Bahru.

Melaka looks interesting for its history/culture but is there something for small kids? We are spoilt in S'pore with several water theme parks, discovery centres etc so I'd appreciate anyone's comments on:

1. Would Melaka be worthwhile for 2 small boys? Or is there somewhere else in Malaysia that you'd recommend for a short stay?

2. Is the A'Famoso Water Park any good? Singapore has a great 'Wild Wild Wet' Theme Park so we wouldn't go just for this attraction.

3. What's the best way to travel there from S'pore?

Thanks for any comments

Hi,

Malacca is worth a short trip and so is Penang. There are cultural and historic similiarities between Malacca, Penang and Singapore and if you can learn about how the English changed the history of these three administrative states, then you can see the effect on these place today.

Malacca has few historic sites that may interest the children plus china town has better ambiance than the fabricated china town in Singapore.

Don't bother to go A famosa, it is a waste of time. The Melaka zoo is not bad and worth a visit although it is not as good as Singapore one.

Travel from Singapore on coach such as 707, Grassland or Transtar.
