It's true, but on the plus side the exchange rate better than it's ever been. It hit Rs. 93 to the £1 recently and is presently Rs. 90. The GBP against other Asian currencies is very week - almost half.

I think so Micky. I don't think you'll notice any major price hike. Yes petrol price have been erratic and I hear the cost of tomatoes shot up recently but more to do with the monsoons. This seems a reasonable guide

We noticed some restaurants were lifting prices from the 2011/12 season ready for the 2012/13 season, but it was minor inflation (only on some items) and was completely outweighed by the more favourable exchange rate. Things effectively got a lot cheaper and presently are staggeringly so. I hope it holds out and does not effect the local economy too much.

The exchange rate is brilliant NOW, who's to say what it will be when the season starts.

Even on a two week package - two weeks minimum holiday most have - the visa fee only works out 6.50 pounds a day - can easily recoup that by the lower holiday prices. As been said many times before the overall cost of holiday still works out much cheaper that just about anywhere else.

Does this mean you can drop of paper application etc and then pick up later in the day??

Unfortunetly not, Katy. You either get an appointment to drop off in person or post the papers off to VFS.

They process them, and then take over all applications from that day to the Indian High Commission who then check them over the next couple of days before granting the visa (all being well) and returning to VFS.

They then contact you to let you know it is ready to collect or post back to you depending on what service you have opted for.

Looks like it will all have changed by this time next year though.

According to VFS website, visas up to 6 month are £80 + £10.20 admin fee so £92.20.

A 3 month visa is no cheaper than a 6 month one.

Some people are given a 3 month visa even when they ask for a 6 month one and get no refund from the £92.20 they've paid.
