Hi!

We are going down tonight to stay in a hotel so we can get to the consulate for 6am ish as we've heard that the queues start very early. A friend of mine who is a hindu has said that now that Diwali has passed it shouldn't be as manic, but we're not going to risk it as we go on holiday this Friday!! What time are you thinking of getting there - might see you in the queue!! Michelle & Mark

You've got loads of time then!! If you check www.hcilondon.co.uk (or type HCI London into Google), check their website for weekend visa surgeries which tend to be in the North which would save you a trip to Birmingham. Aparently these are more organised and less hassle. We missed out on this idea due to the Diwali festival and we only booked our holiday last week. If you do decide to go to Birmingham we'll be the ones with the ski gear on sat on camping chairs with the flask of tea - join us for a cuppa!! Michelle

I went down to Birmingham last Monday and arrived at 5.10 am. There were already 35 people ahead of me in the queue. Best place to park is the nearby multi-storey because the spaces on Augusta Street were full.

Local cafe opens at 7.00am for hot coffee etc and they open the doors at the High Commission at 8.30am, one hour before visa processing begins. If you are one of the first 50 or 60 through the door and get your numbered ticket at the bottom of the stairs you will get your visa the same day. If you get your ticket upstairs in the main room, you must come back to collect it another day.

The whole system was a shambles. Collection of visas after 3.00pm was chaos with nothing happening for 45 minutes or so.

If you can, send the applications by post unless time does not allow.
