Did you get a reply to this?

Cloudmont, believe it or not is a place to ski in AL. Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but, it is minimal, but in a lovely scenic area. It IS open this year. In the off season, they have golf. If you are looking for "outdoors" it is around some of the nicest landscape in AL, IMO.

Not really convenient to Huntsville, though (kind of winding, secondary roads, etc.) If you were going here and needed city convenience, you may want to look at Chattanooga.

But there ARE a few places to stay in the area. Inns, cabins, etc. in nearby Mentone, DeSoto, and Weiss Lake. Also a moderate motel or two in Fort Payne, along I-59.

Look at www.cloudmont.com.

Thank you -

No, I'd not gotten a reply.

We are in Atlanta - so wondering if it is worth the effort. ---

thought it might be closer than NC.

BUT - wondering if it is a CHEESY - unkempt resort - such as Sky Valley in GA - (it is closed now!) it just was not kept up, not really a nice place.

Know of any really NICE B&Bs or Inns - scenic - that would be ok for kids too - nearby to the Cloudmont & or Huntsville----

I haven't been to Huntsville in ages, but may take our girls, ages 10&12 there some time soon - to do the Space Center tour, etc.

Other great things for a family in Huntsville?

Actually it IS a place to ski, in the winter, when it's cold enough for them to make snow. It's too small to be cheesy!
