Malaria risk in Kolkata?

We are travelling to sikkim from australia via kolkata. We were told by our docter here that there is no need to take something for malaria in kolkata and sikkim . andjust wear long sleeved clothes and use the appropriate repellant.I am unsure about this Any comments?

Nothing to get panicked as such. Using mosquito repellent will be safe.

There is no need to worry. Yes, it is true that of late there have been cases of Dengue fever in Kolkata (which is a tropical disease caused by a virus) but one doesnt need to panic at all. In all probability, you'll catch a flight to Bagdogra , so wear full sleeves , carry repellant ....and enjoy India !!
