Nathula Pass

Hi ,

We are planning to arrive in Gangtok on 23rd June for 3 days

Just wanted to know

1. Will we get some woolens on hire for our trip to Nathula or do we need to carry it from here , since we only expect to find real cold there and not sure whether we will go to Nathula .. pls revert . Do remember a lot of these in Gulmarg and arounds so i am assuming it shall be there too

You need to hire special snow shoes and jacket for Nathula. No its not like Gulmarg. The area is under constant vigililance of Indian and Chinese army. Its high security zone. The climate of Nathula is more fluctuating, the whole area is covered with snow. The sky gets dark with strong winds every now and then. The Pass opens from March to June. You can have hot coffee in the army cafetaria and of course you can talk to your home from the STD booth there. But no skiing etc like Khilanmarg (Gulmarg).

Hi,

It has been raining pretty heavily in Eastern India since the last few days, and therefore, in case visiting Nathula is your primary point of attraction for visiting Gangtok, it is advisable that you double check with your hotel or even better with some reputed travel agents if the tours to Nathula are still operational during the end of June. The road is prone to landslides during the monsoons and many tour operators would not ply on that route at that time. However day trip to Tsomgo lake is usually on.

Thanks

Aman,

It has been raining continuously in Darjeeling and surrounding areas for last 24 hrs. Landslides occured in St.Mary's hill of Darjeeling and Karseong, resulted disrruption of traffic movement.

If you need any assistance in Gangtok, you may contact Pallab Bhattacharya - 09733000591, you may take my name as reference.
