Be careful when considering buying jewellery in Jaipur that purports to contain gem stones.
Asking prices could be 3 or 4 times greater than they should be. Though I appreciate that a profit needs to be made, I discovered when I returned home that I had paid way too much for a ring I bought when visiting in January 2013.
The ring was valued on my return to the UK and I was told that the diamond stones contained only 0.32 parts (out of 1000 parts) diamonds, that the 'sapphires' appeared to be imitations and that both the asking price and what I eventually paid were way too high. The jeweller in Jaipur was made aware of these findings. He disagrees with them. He has offered a refund if I return the ring but postage of jewellery to India is not cheap and there are uncertainties as to whether it would ever reach its destination or that I would ever get my refund.
I bought the ring for my own pleasure - not with intent on making a profit for myself by selling it on - and I will enjoy wearing it even though it appears not to be the promised product. But being ripped off leaves a nasty taste..........
