8 Day Itinerary Delhi>Jaipur>Agra>Varanasi

8 Day Itinerary: Delhi>Jaipur>Agra>Varanasi

My fiance and I just got back from an 8 day trip through Incredible India. We would have liked to have spent an extra day or two in Jaipur and we could have spent weeks in Varanasi! Message me if you want more details.

Day 1:

3am arrival in New Delhi.

Checked into Grand Godwin Deluxe.

Red Fort and Jama Masjid (Rs 200 fee for camera)

Humayun’s Tomb then a quick stop at India Gate for a picture

Got lost in Connaught Square so make sure you know where to go before you head out.

Dinner at hotel.

Day 2:

Train station 5 minutes autorickshaw drive down the road.

A man tried to convince us that or e-tickets weren’t valid and gave us the run around. We eventually lost him and were able to sneak through the gates without any other problems.

Train to Jaipur: 4.5 hours (comfortable, spacious, food included)

Arrived approx 10:30am

Hotel Bani Park Palace was a 5 minute drive from station.

Hired a car driver for the day: drove through Old City (pink city)

City Palace

Observatory (Jantar Mantar)

Crematorium tombs

Textile place

Monkey Temple

Dinner at Maggi Restaurant around the corner from hotel

Day 3:

9am start

Hawa Mahal in Old City

Amber Fort

Jaigarth Fort

Note: some places are discounted, like Jaigarth Fort when you show your City Palace ticket

Water Palace picture

Lunch at Rainbow restaurant across street from Water Palace

Ayurvedic Massage at Kerala Ayurveda Kendra

Back to Textile place

Dinner at Handi’s

Day 4:

9am – took hired van to Agra (arranged through Grand Godwin for Rs 5800 but our driver in Jaipur said it should only cost Rs 4500)

Stopped at Bird Sanctuary for 2.5 hours with a guide (which made it much more worth while for novices birders like ourselves). We could have spent much more time.

Fatehpur Sikri

Arrival at Hotel: Utkarsh Villas

Dinner at hotel

Day 5:

10am Taj Mahal (5 minute ride from hotel)

1pm Agra Fort

Baby Taj

Mentab Bagh (garden behind Taj)

Time wasted by driver taking us to a jewellery store

Returned to hotel around 5:30

9:20pm overnight train to Varanasi

Day 6:

Arrived at Varanasi Junction station around 12:00

20 minute autorickshaw drive to Old City

checked into guesthouse: Monu Family Paying Guest House

Lunch at Ganga Fuji

Walked from Meer Ghat to Assi Ghat and back along Assi Road.

Snack at Bakery of Life

Returned through Dashawarmedh Ghat for light/worship show at 6:30pm. Happens daily.

7:30 Ganga Fuji for dinner and live classical Indian music

9pm back to guesthouse

Day 7:

Wake up at 5:30 and walked down to Dashawarmedh Ghat. 1 hour boat ride. (2.5 hours to Raj Ghat by the bridge) and sunrise

Return to guesthouse at 7:30 for showers and a nap.

Breakfast at Brown Bread Bakery upstairs

Driver Dabbu Ferrari took us to Sarnath for Rs 350 roundtrip then down to Benares Hindu University, Shiva Temple, Durga Temple and Monkey Temple for an additional Rs 350. He was a great driver/guide if you can find him. (I’ll give you his cell number if you message me).

On the way back to Old City we stopped at a silk factory prices ranged from Rs 1400 to 3000.

Very dusty and dirty. Went to guesthouse for a shower followed by dinner at Ganga Fuji.

Day 8:

8am yoga class at International Yoga Centre. Rs 100/hour for group classes. Rs.500/hour for private class (I recommend!)

Brown Bread Bakery for breakfast after packing.

One last walk along the ghats.

Car to airport.
