visiting mumbai for 3 days which area to stay

Hi, we are a couple, no kids, like a nice bar, not nightclubs, like colonial British stuff and Indian bustling, colourful life. Definitely want a good curry and a chilling drink. Want to do some sightseeing and maybe a bit of shopping (clothes, food - we live in the desert and can't get much so we bring stuff back). Want to be chilled but close to the above, where do you recommend, anyone?

I would suggest the YWCA International hostel/hotel, its right in the heart of the fort area, a few minutes walk from most tourist attractions, and 5 minutes drive ro Marine Drive and the beach area.
