Hello pavschick,

The ordinary B&Y metered/flaged taxi non ac, metered taxi will cost you around Rs 400/- & A/c B&S Cool Cab metered & other radio taxi like the Tab,Mega, Easy, Meru,Ola,etc will be approx.25% more than the ordinary B&Y taxi fare. Both are day fare from 5-00am until 12-00 midnight. The night fare 12-00 midnight to 5-00am would be 25% more than day fare. The luggage charges would be extra to the metered fare.

There are prepaid taxi from both domestic as well as International airports in Mumbai ( and on major Indian airports) taxi run by the taxi men association and supervised &controlled by local/state traffic police.

They have fixed rates from airport to particular area/destination which has to be prepaid at the kiosk at Mumbai domestic airport it is just outside on your right when you exit the airport and the taxi will be allotted to you which will take you to the fixed destination. This may cost approx.100/-(plus the luggage charges) more including than the metered taxi inclusive of small service charge on your route for B&Y no a/c taxi.Corresponding extra for B&S and other Radio taxis ( Meru & like all can be hired as prepaid one). They have separate counters at the airport just before the exit at the domestic airport.

The B&S Cool Cab & B&Y share the same kiosk at Mumbai Domestic airport.

You need to leave not later than 1-15 am if nearby Gateway.of India for International airport. So can call at taxi around 1-00 am.

The prepaid ac/non ac (Black/yellow : non ac and light blue:ac)booking counter is just before the exit in both 1A & 1B terminals. The rates are displayed for various destinations at the counter.Rs 10/= per piece of lugguage + Rs30/= processing charges . The radio cab counters are adjacent. These cabs are run by the meter. They are about 30-40% costlier.

It is advisable to book a radio cab to travel to the airport fairly in advance over phone(at least 2-3 hrs before the departure time from your hotel). You can book online too.

You have not mentioned where you'll be staying in Mumbai. As advised by Gini , 1 am should be a good time to leave for the airport.(should leave a bit earlier if you are in South Mumbai though the traffic thins out by late evening)

The bigger hotels usually call for the blue ac cabs and they are prone to asking exorbitant rates.

The rates from the airport are fixed and it is advisable to take a prepaid cab at the airport to reach your hotel.

The usual non ac , black and yellow cabs are available easily all over Mumbai.

Avoid pre-paid Cool Cabs at Mumbai Domestic Airport. Metered radio taxis are preferable since they charge as per the meter. Had a bad experience with a pre-paid cool cab. I had requested for a cab to Gorai which is in Borivali west. The Cashier registered the destination as Borivali (W). After having reached Borivali (W) the Driver simply dropped us off without reaching the final destination with luggage and all. Fortunately it was day time. So please avoid pre-paid Cool Cabs which are anyway exorbitant. Professional taxi service providers like Meru, Easycabs, Tabcabs etc. are available.
