3 days in New Delhi

Hi all,

I am travelling to New Delhi as a stop over for 3 nights at the end of January next year. I will be travelling with some older people also in a group of 6. This is our first time to India.

We need some advice on must do things that does not involve too much work. We do want see the Taj Mahal for certain but need advice on other sightseeing activities.

Can people give me a rough itinerary for 3 days 3 nights.

Also as there are 6 people, can someone recommend how we can all get around together but not too expensive but with comfort?

Many thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

Hi ap1983,

You can spend 2 days in Delhi for exploring Old & New Delhi and a day for Agra.

You can hire a Tempo Traveler to explore the sites in Delhi.

As far as Agra is concerned trip can be done by train/car it all depends on your decision...by train you get plenty of time in Agra to do the s/s including Taj Mahal with some other monuments of historical interest like Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri(40 kms outside Agra)......All these monuments can be covered in a day if the trip is done by train....by car you can do only Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

Thanks and Regards

Rashid Agra

Hi ap1983,

As you are in delhi for 3 days you can take a tempo traveller

1. Go for a 9 seater luxury class tempo traveller. It has bigger seat size and are comfortable have push back seats and good for small groups.

2. You can hire for it for all three days 2 days would be charged as local usage and one day would be charged as outstation usage price. which would be around Rs.22000. As rashid said you can 2 days in delhi and one day in agra that would be a perfect plan for your tour.

3. Make sure that it is not a Friday because on friday Taj is closed. Try to leave Taj on the very first day of your travel.

5. Use Taj Express highway for your travel to agra as it has smooth roads. Last two days can be divided for site-seeing at delhi.

6. tempotraveller.in is a good site which can be used to hire tempo traveller in delhi

AP1983,

I would suggest you as following :

Day 01 Arrive Delhi, if time permits visit Connaught place & vicinity in evening.

Day 02 Visit – Birla Temple, Observatory, Red Fort , Jama Masque, Raaj Ghat & Akshardham Temple.

Day 03 Visit – India Gate, Old Fort , National Museum, Humayun Tomb, Lodhi Garden, Lotus Temple, Qutub Tower, evening drive past through Govt. Buildings President House & Parliament building.

I do not suggest to go Agra for day trip in January specially with elderly peoples. As days are short and also misty so car takes much more time than usual. As I do not know your arrival & departure time in Delhi, if it 03 full day then you can make plan for Overnight trip to Agra with Delhi sight –seeing.

Day 01 – Arrival + Half day visit Delhi

Day 02 – Half day visit Delhi – 03 PM drive to Agra. Night stay at Agra.

Day 03 Visit Taj Mahal , Agra & Excursion to Fatehpur Sikri, come back to Delhi.

Day 04 Shopping & departure.

* a few monuments in Delhi closed on Monday & Taj Mahal on Friday.

For a 3 nights trip:

Visiting Agra & Delhi will be the right option. One can cover Jaipur if needed but it is not advisable since you have older people in the group.

While planning your sightseeing in Delhi, you can use the HOHO Bus service which is best and economical. Alternatively take a Old Delhi City tour along with the Salaam Balaak Trust City Guide. Visit their site : www.salaambaalaktrust.com/city-walk.asp

You can plan a day's trip to Agra by using the early morning Shatabadi Express to Agra and return by the same train in the evening.

Hi, You can cover Delhi and Agra easily in 3 days. Agra you can do by Shatabdi Express and for Delhi and Agra sightseeing you can hire a Tempo Traveller.
