Travelling to Delhi at the end of august for 2 weeks

I am travelling to Delhi at the end of august for 2 weeks by myself .

This increasingly becoming more daunting as the days pass!

I was wondering where the best places were to stay , like all hotels i have read bad reviews on lots i have looked at !! so its making my decision making reallly hard!

If anybody has any advice it would be much appreciated ...I am moslty worried about my first 2 days there especially the first night as i will be arriving in the early hours of the morning on my own!

Thankyou ...Emma

Dear Emma -

August is not the peak season and you'll find it easy to book hotels. What sort of budget are you looking at? I've posted a set of recommendations of hotels, ranging from $70 to $200, if that works for you. If you are looking for lower range hotels, please ask, I've posted some recommendations for those as well. I'll dig up the old posts.

While there are pre-paid taxis at the airport, you may be better off with transport arranged by the hotel. All hotels will pick you up from the airport, including budget hotels. What time does your flight get in? I would advice you to stay at the airport until daybreak, and then go to the hotel.

Delhi is a marvellous city with a lot of history. There's so much to see and do! Not only does it have several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, it also has some great dining options, bars and clubs. Please see this earlier post on safety for women travellers in Delhi: http://tinyurl.com/59gwvt

Please also see this article I wrote called 'Sensible advice for women travelling to India'

If you want to get a feel for Delhi's people and monuments, check out some of the Delhi blogs on the internet. I myself write one, it's called http://www.delhimagic.blogspot.com, but there are several others. There's a guy called Mayank Austen Soofi who has a beautiful blog.
