Hi I am arriving in Sri Lanka on 25 Feb 2014, a I best taking Stirling then changing it in Kandy where we are staying?
Yes, as a Brit Sterling is the best currency.
Don't change at hotels (lousy rate), but at banks and authorized money changers.
Banks also giving law rates. Better go to a authorized money changer, they giving the best price at the date. Also if you will exchange more than 100 you can get a best rate. In Kandy has few good places to exchange money.
Money changers only give a slightly better rate than banks. It's not about the amount you change, more about the denomination of the notes.
Oh? Why Hans? Do larger denominations get better rates?
Yes, slightly better rates.
At a money changer, a $100USD bill will get you the best rate. They just seem to favour it for some reason.
In fact, you will probably be offered a better rate for a single $100 bill than, say, 15 separate $10 bills...
