Hi Arvind,

Well possible assuming you take car with driver. Sequence and attractions could be:

* First A'purna, assuming your flight arrives before 1 PM. Otherwise first a night in Negombo. A'Purna good hotels are Palm Garden Village (3-4 star) and the new very upmarket Ulagalla. Sights will cost you a few hours: lots of dagobas, the old bo tree and remains of old palaces.

* Then Kandy. Upmarket hotels are e.g. Amaya Hills, Citadel, Mahaweli Reach and Earl's Regency. Sights are the Temple of Tooth, Peradeniya botanical gardens and an evening dance performance

* On your way to Colombo maybe also visit Pinawela elephant orphanage? The kids will _love_ it, just like they'll do with Peradeniya gardens which e.g. has a huge colony of fruit bats.

* Colombo is mostly shop till you drop. Any hotel in the Fort/Kollupitiya area will do; our pick would be Galle Face (old wing for budget travel with some 'vintage' rooms and Regency wing for 4-star). Alternatively Mount Lavinia hotel, more of a beach experience but still inside the Colombo shopping zone.

All the best,

3. Re: 5 day trip to Srilanka

Hi there,

Not bad! On day 2 put Sigiriya first, as climbing later in the day is too much sun exposure.

For the other parts it's choosing. The rough timings, assuming you first have 90 mins ride A'pura-Sigiriya after breakfast and then 3 hours climb/descend so you'd be finished at noon:

* P'ruwa and back from Sigiriya including touring the ruins: 3 hour

* Sigiriya to Kandy: 3 hours

* Dambulla temple stopover: 1 hour

* Botanical garden visit: 2 hours

(Tooth temple can be done after dark, many like that even more than daytime)

So as you have 6 hours from noon to 6 PM, of which 3 hours occupied by the trip to Kandy, that means

- Either P'ruwa (then drop Dambulla temple and Peradeniya)

- Or the other two

Getting a car-driver can be done through an operator (e.g. Red Dot, Walkers, Tangerine, Jetwing) or directly with freelancers. The latter one are sometimes mentioned here in forum and FAQ stories, and names can also be got from regular posters including the DE's; use Personal Messages for this. Open soliciting in the forum leads to tons of (PM) spamming...

All the best,

With 2 nights in Kandy you should have plenty of time to do what you mentioned in Kandy, but day 2 will still be tight if you include Polonnaruwa.

Yes, better add the extra night not in Kandy but in e.g. Sigiriya or Dambulla. Next morning, after having spent one day for Sigiriya and P'ruwa together, you do Dambulla rock temple and that afternoon Peradeniya gardens.

Okay, THAT sounds better. Indeed by shortening A'Pura visit and staying overnight in the next city you save some time.

On day 2 I'd definitely stay in SIgiriya (or Giritale), not Dambulla. Saves you 2 x 45 mins transfer time on day 3, P'ruwa is best done from S. or G.

Indeed Colombo sightsee is quite uninteresting compared to the other places; it's a shopping destination.

All the best,
