sri lanka

Sorry if this appears twice

I am hoping to go to sri lanka later this year.Basic questions are:

1.When to go

2.Where to stay - which area

3.Are there any political issues which make it unsafe

Lets hope I post it properly this time!

Hi there!

1. December-April is high season, best weather on South and West coast. But any other month has good weather on SOME part of town.

2. Inland is lovely for travelling, e.g. Kandy and Eliya areas for hikers and nature lovers, southeast for wildlife safaris and Cultural Triangle for, well Culture fans. Coast (south and west) for bounty fans...

3. In North and East there is some level of civil war. All other parts, including all tourist areas, are as safe as e.g. London!

Much luck,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

We went in Feb 07 and had a wonderful time

August in Kandy there are celebrations and processions

We stayed at Tulip of Ceylon

http://www.tulipofceylon.com/ENG/index1.html

they can organise tours anywhere as well as give opportunities to meet local people in and around the hotel. They organised a ride back to the hotel on an elephant a memorable experience

depends on how long you want to stay in SL

We stayed at the Tulip for a week and then moved south to the coast but could have stayed at the Tulip for the whole time!!

Hi there....

Ranselva has replied with absolute RUBBISH!!!, it is very safe for tourists in Sri Lanka, as it always has been.

People should NOT post scaremongering things on here, it is not fair to first time visitors.

SrI Lanka is as safe, if not safer thatn you own home town!!, including Melbourne too!

Regards

You cant just make a comment like that and not provide any experience to back up such a claim I was there at Christmas and felt perfectly safe and travelled on the road leading to the north looking for wild elephants and I am going again next week to do some more exploring of this great

country. A few weeks back I was in London and felt a bit on edge

but never in Sri Lanka.
