Pai and safety

Is Pai safe for one or 2 women traveling alone? Looks like a haven for party goers-less authentic Thailand. My 19 year old daughter wants to go there from Chang Mai and I am worried about her safety.

Depends on what she does there and if she has "travel sense"...we felt totally safe, but we were not getting out of it, either..Will you be there?? Has she been to Thailand before?

yes. she has but always with a group of gap year students . this time around she is traveling more independently and I worried after reading that it is a "haven for hippies looking to party" she is usually more drawn to authentic Thailand experiences and avoids tourist traps-Safety is my main concern of course. thanks

Pai is quite safe unless she decides to rent a scooter and has an accident.

When we went ,I observed at the time of people, many where mid age ladies, I would put then in Alternate , than hippy.

I noticed a lot of college Students from the US, I think that because Pai is a bit laid back, some laws might not be enforced as much. Ie as to Purchase Alcohol you need to 20 years old.

Pai is often seen by the younger crowd as an alternative "unseen" off-the-grid escape where the rules don't really apply, but also important to remember basic common sense. Illegal drugs are still illegal, off-duty cops sometimes trick naive backpackers into buying a bag of weed, then whip out their badge and take them away (probably to the nearest ATM). Drunk local Thai guys hitting on (very badly) equally drunk white girls late at night is a common thing. Best overall advice is don't do any drugs, don't get too drunk, and stick with trusted friends after dark. Don't walk back to your bungalow or guesthouse alone. Oh and the usual motorbike warnings - only if you have experience, license, insurance, helmet, etc.

Like I said.... do you trust your daughters judgement?? One may go there to experience drugs and lots of drink with others. She can get into a lot of trouble if that what’s she’s going there for.. we went fir the beauty, food and experience the place. You decide on her motives and do you trust her? Don’t want to get into any trouble in another country. EVER. they won’t let her have a call back to mom!!
