Confused...

We are travelling from Surat Thani on the 11th and have realised there is no ferry going to koh samui after 4pm so have decided to take the 6pm boat to ko phangan.

Confused about the accommodation.. I have read and read and read reviews but cannot decide because all hotels fit in our budget. We are looking for something peaceful giving good views of the sea. We liked the look of Blue Hill and Utopia but both seem very basic and like the reviews about service at the best western.. Any place to sum it all?? And yet not expensive?

We are staying for 5 days, should we split our stay between phangan and samui? Before heading to Bangkok???

Please help.....

Hi there,

There are ferries (Raja) at 4, 5, 6 and 7 pm from Donsak Pier to Koh Samui:

Only you can decide whether or not to split your time between the two. Sorry, I am unable to help/suggest with the accommodation that you mention.

We've just returned from a trip to Thailand of which we stayed in both Samui and Koh Phangan and they are both very different, Samui is quite commercialised now, we stayed at the Amari on Cheweng Beach and although Samui is lovely I didn't realise how commercialised it was until we went to Phangan. We stayed in the Santhiya but I'm not sure what the area was called perhaps you could google it. The area was very nice, quiet and quant which made for a very relaxing break, had we have then gone to Samui I think we would have been dissapointed. Just be aware that they are both very different and if you just want peace, quiet and relaxation koh Phangan might be your best option.

With 5 days I would stay at one or the other, Koh Phangan would offer what you are looking for and in particular have a look at Thong Nai Pan, a stunning beach in the north - Thong Nai Pan Noi has luxury accommodation whereas Thong Nai Pan Yai is for the more budget conscious.

Checked this place called Loyfa Natural Resort. Looks great too.. If we stay on this island through out, is it easy to commute to Samui often? Also want to visit Koh Tao...
