Is there more chance of dengue on Lipe vs Lanta?

Ok this is going to sound wierd but after 4 trips to Thailand only using anti mossie patches I have been reading about dengue fever and and now really worried. Been to places like Bangkok, Phuket, koh phangan and phi phi and never used any repellent - always went in high season btw.

Now for this trip I was going to be spending some time on koh lipe but I've read some reports in the last few years to suggest a few pepper got dengue and seeing as its such a small island I figure maybe the risk of infection is higher?

Do you think koh lanta has maybe a lower risk? Have there been any reports of dengue on koh lanta last few years? Do the aedes mossie hang out inland usually or close to the beach?

I wish I had not read up on this now as I have a feeling I will end up confining myself to Patong and Bangkok and not venture out to see some islands.

Thanks

There have been reported cases of Dengue Fever throughout S E Asia and Thailand, including Bangkok and Phuket. There are even reported cases of it now in Europe. The advice for anyone travelling anywhere to Thailand is to use repellant during the day. Some UK sunscreens have an insect repellent ingredient.

Have a look at posts 15 & 16 in particular in this thread about Dengue Fever tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g293916-i3687-k6…

Hi,

The advice above is very good. In terms of incident, I have a Thai friend who caught dengue on Lipe within the last 2 months and another who caught it on the east side of Phuket a month ago, so whilst I haven't heard of any cases on Lanta recently it would be wise to assume it could be there too.

Cheers

You can't really say where you'll be most likely to chatch it the only thing to do is to always use a repellent, there's no other remedy.

As reported above Dengue is at an all time high in Thailand, though your chances of getting it are slim if you take proper precautions against mosquito bites. That said, no one destination is 'safer' from contracting dengue as it appears to be in most provinces a the moment.

A more important concern IMHO is getting treatment should you be unfortunate enough to catch Dengue. Lanta has a number of clinics and a hospital while (to the best of my knowledge) Lipe has none of either.

You should be using some sort of repellent day and night.
