Bangkok to Koh Lanta - Passenger Ferry or Car Ferry

Hi All

My girlfriend and I are coming to Koh Lanta from Bangkok on the 24th of this month. Will we need to get the car ferry or will the passenger ferry be open by that date?

Would really appreciate any help as it will help us plan our journey.

Regards

J & T

Great news! Many thanks for the reply. It means we can come to Krabi then catch the passenger ferry rather than take the train to Trang and minibus and car ferry.

Might have to get a coach to Krabi now as there is no train station? Or can you get the train to Surat Thani and bus from there? Do you know how far is it from Surat Thani?

Why don't you just fly to Krabi on Air Asia?

You can catch a bus from Surathani, but that also takes some time,I prevere to go to Trang and than the mini bus,or as said fly to krabi.

The passenger ferry only goes twice a day,in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, and the mini bus from Trang goes every hour

We are flying back from Krabi to Bangkok after Lanta but wanted to get the train as its a different experience and as my gf has not been to Thailand before she wants to see and experience a different journey there and back.

Might even consider the overnight coach to Krabi if it means we can get on the passenger ferry. Will have to look into the timings.

Cant wait to get back to Thailand again... (thanks for all your help).

There is a regular passenger boat from Krabi (one or two a day) but if you take the train all the way to Trang, you can get a minibus to the small local ferry which runs all day. From Trang it's about an hour to the port.
