A day of rest but where

We arrive from Galapagos saturday 14;20 at Guayaquil and have a flight back to Madrid 20;05 on Sunday. We would like after a great trip to stay the night somewhere in the countryside and relax, perhaps have a swim, prior to the flight back.

We looked at the el senor de los caballos but it is 1.5 hours each way according to their pages which means it might be 2 to 2.5 hours from our experience of travel in Ecuador.

Can anyone suggest an alternative that is closer? Any help much appreciated..

Sure I can help but I would like to know what exactly are you looking for since "countryside" near Guayaquil is really not near and definitely not a trip to do when you only have 1 day. If you want to have a swim and rest almost every Hotel in the city has a pool and it all depends on your budget. My recommendation would be for you to get a room in either Hotel Oro Verde, Hilton Colon or the Sonesta where you will enjoy their pool and then if you get bored off the pool you can get a cab and go to the Malecón 2000 or Las peñas or Parque Histórico which are great places to spend a couple of hours.

Labne thanks for your reply. Sadly we are now back in the UK.

We tried El Senor de los caballos. The 2 hour drive out was very interesting and well worth while. Our driver Milton was very knowleagable and great to be with. We saw the mango, rice, and other rural production plus a cock fight (which is sad but real life).

Sadly El Senor de los Caballos was a disaster. A rundown Spa which despite being poor value we might have stayed at for just a night but for them having hired out the bar/restaurant to a religious group who spent all day (and apparently the next) chanting, singing and preaching via a sound system. And a./c that sounded like a jet revving up before take off.

We returned to Guayaquil after just 2 hours and despite having to pay $200 to escape we were glad to get away.

In the end we stayed at a Howard Johnson Hotel in Guay and it was great.

Too bad to hear that, yes, el señor de los caballos is a very rural hotel, sorry that I couldnt respond before in order to warn you about it. you would have better off at other places along that route.
