Is it safe to use a taxi. As in will they treat you honestly? (no disrespect)

Yes, don't worry about it. However, I suggest you check they use the taximeter evey time you board.

Hi pperryman321. Just so you know, only the yellow taxis that have a green sign on top that says "Ejecutivo" use a taximeter. These are radio taxis that you must call for, i.e. they will not pick you up if you try to hail them off the street. I recommend using one of these taxis.

If you decide to use a different type of taxi, always agree on the price with the driver BEFORE getting into the car (according to your destination). They will not have a taximeter and could potentially rip you off if you do not settle the price beforehand. $2-3 is typical for a nearby location (around 5 mins). As long as you're traveling within downtown Guayaquil you should not have to pay anything over $8.
