Car / boat advice

I'm visiting the Island of Korcula at the end of May for a really chilled out holiday.

We'd like to hire a boat to explore the coastline and a few of the surrounding Islands but we haven't driven a boat before. Is it difficult / dangerous? How do they work?

Also we are staying near Vela Luka and would like to explore the whole island. Should we hire a car for the week or could you cycle the island?

Thanks in advance

You do need a certificate to hire a boat of a certain size - when a relative of ours tried to hire one a few years ago he found out he could only hire a small vessel without a certificate.

You can cycle around the island safely in May but Vela Luka is at the very end of the island and around 35/40 minutes drive to the main town of Korcula. There is a good bus system that operates taking you to and from Vela Luka to the main town and all the small towns and villages along the way

Why do you not e-mail Korkyra as besides operating transfers from Dubrovnik to Korcula they also hire cars and boats - they will be able to let you know the size of the boat you can hire without a certificate - their e-mail is :-

You do not necessarily have to use this company but you would then know what boat you can hire and an idea of how much it would be to hire a car if you wished

Have a good trip !
