Tai Shan

We have a trip planned to China in September. We plan to visit Tai shan and would like to be on the mountain for the sunrise. We will arrive early morning in Taishan and will either leave our luggage at left luggage in the station and stay at the top of the mountain or book into a hotel in Tai'an, rest there during the day, leave our luggage there over night and walk up the mountain at night.

Does anyone have experience of either of these options?. What is it like walking up at night? If we stay over night on the mountain, what is the best way to get a reasonably priced room, we don't need luxury.

It's up to you, if you are quite fit, you could climb during night to see the sunrise, and get down in day time. This is a popular way seeing mountain in China. So many people are doing Taishan in night everyday. You are never alone, what's more, everything (food, water, hand stick, flashlight, coat)is for sale alone the way. You could see the sites in day light when getting down. If tired, just use the cable car down and rest in town.

If you do it in night, be sure to start (from Red Gate/红门) not late than 11:00 PM. Sunrise for the moment is 05:00 AM. You need a flashlight.
