Where to stay near Barber Motorbike Museum

Hi, we are trying to plan a trip to the Barber Motorbike Museum, we will be leaving St Augustine and driving to Birmingham, plan to stay one or two nights, could someone suggest a nice clean, friendly hotel. Two adults over 50, no children or pets on this trip. Any advice about other attractions, or good places to eat would be much appreciated. Thank you

Barber is in Leeds - only 15 minutes from Bham. Both homewood and mt brook are great areas with shopping and restaurants with nice hotels. Aloft , embassy suites or grand bohemian ... Avondale and Lakeview are great areas with bars and restaurants also ..

Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum with the related formula 1 track is in Leeds, just east of Birmingham and conveniently near I-20. There is not much else in that area...a few motels (which would work if you so desire), a mall, a Bass Pro Shop (worth a look)....

Other attractions in Birmingham are downtown: The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute with nearby Kelly Ingram Park and 16th Street Baptist Church; Sloss Furnaces is an old pig iron furnace - self guided; Vulcan is the worlds largest cast iron statue with some nice views and a small mining museum; the Birmingham Botanical Gardens are nice; The Birmingham Museum of Art is small with a nice collection.

The best restaurant in the state is Highlands Bar and Grill at 5 Points South. Other high end spots include Bottega, Hot and Hot Fish Club; Cafe Dupont; Satterfield's; there are others...

Others: Chez Fon Fon; Ocean; Surin; Oven Bird, Gianmarco's, Cantina, Bettola, Dyron's Low Country;

BBQ: Carlile's, Saw's, Jim and Nick's, Dreamland, Full Moon...many others

I would probably stay downtown or Southside (the Birmingham neighborhood - not the town in the boonies) (there are several) - though Homewood and Mountain Brook are nearby and fine. Indeed the motels in Leeds would be fine if that's more convenient.

Meat and 3/Soul Food: Fife, Ted's, Nikki's West, Whistle Stop ...many others

If you want to stay as close as possible to the museum, there is a Hampton Inn right by it. Search for Leeds, AL on their website. In addition to all of the other things already mentioned, there is a nice outlet mall across the highway from the museum if you are interested in some shopping. The Whistle Stop Cafe is not too far away in Irondale and was the inspiration for the Fannie Flagg book (and subsequent movie) Fried Green Tomatoes.

Since I assume you have an interest in racing, the Talladega Superspeedway Nascar track is not very far to the east of the Barber track. There is a Hall of Fame museum there, and you can tour the track.
