What is the best way to get to Quanzhou from Xiamen?
I was just thinking about Quanzhou ( liked it there, and want to back )
By bus is , fast .
Do you recall how long a trip it was?
Between 2 -3 hours, not far at all.
I am planning one week in the area. Any suggestion on must do/must see/must eat highlights?
Hot spring, enjoyed it a lot, specialy the fish pool.
Gulang Yu like being on a holiday....
Quanzhou.... Luoyang bridge a special place , go there early in the morning as the light is beautiful on the water.
There is another old bridge futher away from the town, but did not go there, another reason I would like to go back.
Hakka Tulou , stay in one for a night..
Must eat... if you like ousters there is a lot in Quanzhou.
From Quanzhou you can take a bus to Chong Wu (spelling?), which is an old walled city on the coast. They have fantastic fresh seafood on the beach, and the city itself is great to walk around with narrow ancient alleys and such. I didn't like Quanzhou much, but it's a fine enough base to see these other sites!! Chong Wu is maybe an hour or two by bus.
2-3 hours? the fast train from xiamen takes about 45 minutes!
I've done this trip and agree with #7, the D train (high speed rail) is only 45 minutes, many trains per day. Except at Chinese holiday periods, you should be able to buy a ticket as a walkup. Quanzhou is one of my "hidden gems" of China, definitely worth spending at least a day or two.Edited: 4:35 am, December 02, 2012
There are bullet trains between quanzhou and Xiamen, the trains departure in about each half hour. It just takes you about 30min to Xiamen from Quanzhou ,and the price is very cheap, just 21 CNY
