Huangshan to Yichang or Chonqing

Hi guys, I hope you could help me out.

We're planing to go to Huangshan this October and we wanted to go see the Three Gorges afterwards. What's the best way for us to do this?

We were thinking of taking a bus from Huangshan to Wuhan and then take a ferry to Yichang for the upstream trip up to Chongqing.

Is there a better alternative for us? Can we go straight to Yichang?

From Chongqing, we plan to take a train to HongKong.

Thanks a lot!

You may take a bus to Wuhan from Huangshan. (8 hours)

Wuhan itself is worth a visit for a couple of days if you have the time.

The ferry trip to Yichang can be boring, so most people would choose to take a bus to Yichang (4 hours).

As far as I know there's no train from Chongqing to Hong Kong or Shenzhen. So you may have to get to Guangzhou first, but the train journey to Guangzhou can be too long for most people (21-34 hours). If you fly from Chongqing to Hong Kong, it will cost you about 2000 RMB. To save money, you can fly to Shenzhen and enter Hong Kong from there.

An alternative would be flying from Chongqing to Wuhan. There are at least 5 airlines fly this route. It's very easy to find a 160 RMB ticket on China Southern Airlines website (http://www.csair.com, for IE only). You can then take a train or plane to Shenzhen.

Wuhan -> Shenzhen (csair.com): 280 RMB

Wuhan -> Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific): 1230 RMB

Cool! Thanks a lot!

I didn't realize that the train trip from Chongqing to Guangzhou would take so long :O

How come the cost of flying to Hong Kong is expensive? Will it be cheaper for us to say fly from Chongqing to Guangzhou or Shenzen? I don't mind taking the train fro either of those two cities to get into Hong Kong.

Oh and would you know where in Huangshan we'll be able to find the buses to Wuhan? :) At the base of the steps or in town?

Thanks again!

You can take the bus from the bus station in Tangkou(the town at the base) or Tunxi(the city).

Lack of competition keeps the Hong Kong - Chongqing/Wuhan flights expensive. It will be cheaper if you fly Chongqing/Wuhan - Shenzhen/Guangzhou

Tunxi -- Wuhan buses leave at 0750 (226 RMB) and 1620 (238 RMB) and arrive at Hankou's Xinhua Lu long-distance bus station. The 2nd departure arrives in the wee morning hours, so that's about 8 hours or more of journey time.

There're no direct transport links for Huangshan -- Yichang.

Wuhan -- Yichang should be done by bus (about 4 hours), not ferry.

There're no Chongqing -- Hong Kong trains. Flying to Hong Kong is much more expensive as it's considered international. Fly to Shenzhen or even Guangzhou instead.
