Battambang to Siem Reap by Boat

What advice can anyone give about the boat trip from Battambang to Siem Reap. I'll be there in December.

Also, any advice as to how long to stay in Battambang - 2 or 3 nights?

I did the trip in early July and it was really funny experience. We were told it takes 8 hours, maybe less, but actually it was 10+ hours because we got stuck in the LAKE for 2 hours!

At first the trip was smooth, floating village after another, 15 minute stop in one to buy drinks and eat, then arriving at Tonle Sap. And then engine stopped working: the water level was about 1,5 meters and engine was overheated. Well... At first it was really funny to all the passengers. After 30 minutes engine-starting and crew's effortless searching for deeper spot and hot-hot sun the smiles started to fade a bit. Then we got going again ... just to stop near the floating village. Engine didn't start and all the boys, girls and grown-ups surrounded us in a moment. Brr... At last we were able to get to our destination but we were sweaty, hungry and really-really bored.

What a day it was...

If you have only one boat trip planned it's definetly worth it but only once. :) Sit as near to the driver as possible (no direct sunlight!), avoid sitting near the engine (no backsupport, alot of sun), use sunscreen and cover up. Some people in our boat even didn't realize HOW sunburned they were - it's easy to forget yourself.
