Best transport and preferred route

We'd like to make the following stops but can't seem to work out a route that doesn't see us overlapping all the time. Has anyone done a similar route, is public transport possible or private transfers most convenient' we'll fly to the falls. We've anticipated about 10 days and we land in rio ( though now looking like São Paulo may have been a smarter choice)

Rio, buzios, cabo grande, paraty, ilha grande, foz do iguazu

Your itinerary doesn't make a lot of sense with only ten days in Brazil. You would be spending most of your time just moving from one place to another and checking in and out of hotels.

I'd suggest five days in Rio, three in Ilha Grande, and two in Iguazu.

Ilha Grande (Big Island) is 95 miles southwest of Rio de Janeiro. The island is a largely undeveloped protected area and noted for its beautiful beaches and hillsides covered in lush tropical forests. There are no cars and no banks on Ilha Grande, so bring cash with you since not all hotels, shops, and restaurants accept credit cards. The largest village on the island is Vila do Abraão, where most of the visitor facilities are located, and can be reached from the mainland by local ferries and catamarans.

Hi, so

Cabo Frio and Búzios are to the east of Rio, whereas Ilha Grande and Paraty are to the west of Rio. So you have two cities in each direction.

Cabo Frio is really close to Búzios, so you could easily stay in Búzios, which has more attractions and hotels, and visit Cabo Frio. But in my opinion, another city in that region, called Arraial do Cabo, has more interesting beaches. In order to get to Búzios, head to Rio's main bus terminal, called RODOVIÁRIA, and catch a comfortable coach bus to Búzios. The company that does this route is called 1001 and you may try to purchase tickets online (autoviacao1001.com.br). From Búzios, there are buses and other kinds of transportation going to Cabo Frio and Arraial do Cabo (I think there are tours, as well).

Foz do Iguaçu is quite far from Rio, so I recommend taking a plane (~2h flight). Have a look at voegol.com.br; tam.com.br; and voeazul.com.br

You're right am probably cramming too much in so going to cut down - is buzios/cabo frio a better option than paraty/ilha grande? Thought could fly to iguazu from São Paulo rather than rio if did paraty/Ilha grande option.

It would be less complicated and likely less expensive if you took the Illha Grande/Paraty option.

Paraty (also Parati), a coastal historic town between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, is about 160 miles from Rio and replete with picturesque cobbled streets, forests, waterfalls, islands, and an emerald-green sea.
