Carnival transfer worth it?

I bought my sambadrome ticket with Brazil Bookers and they are now selling the hotel to sambadrome transfer for $50. Since I'm staying in an iffy area (Gloria), could anyone offer any advice on whether taxis are readily available in the wee hours and the cost to Gloria? Thanks!

We { 4 in mid 60's } left at 2am and tried for taxi but had difficulties as locals knew how to short circuit pick up points. We then decided to try metro ~ bit of a walk as we were in odd number stand but lots of friendly helpful people directed us. Fascinating walk thro' carnival assy areas. Metro stations quiet with seemingly abundance of staff and police. At no time did we feel intimadated or worried about our safety.

Incidently bought our tickets at the Sambodromo few days before at a fraction of the cost that agencies were selling.
