Question about Visa for Brazil
Save

I am applying for a Brazilian visa for myself and my husband without going through an agency(did it successfully in the past).

I am struggling with how to complete the visa application receipt that we need to send in. After the signature, the receipt asks you to list the "nome do contato" (name of contact?) and telephone number. I can't figure out who they want us to list as the contact. My husband and me? Someone else?

If anyone has completed the application and applied for visas themselves, please help me figure out how to complete these receipts correctly.

Thanks

I just gave the email/address of the hotel we are staying in for 2 nights before we get on a cruise ship.

Are you staying anywhere when you get to Rio or going directly to a cruise ship?

Dawn, thanks for your reply.

Just for information, I did email the Brazilian Embassy in Chicago and they told me to indicate my home address and phone number in case they needed to contact me when they received the visa applications.

Obviously, if they don't have any questions about the application, they don't need to contact you, so any address and phone number could work.

We were told something different by ours.

I would most definitely feel safe following the instructions/advice given by the embassy that you are going to get your VISAs from though....

"nome de contato" is the person (or hotel) you are staying with while in Brazil. I would most definitely NOT "feel safe following the instructions/advice given by the embassy that you are going to get your VISAs from" since many of the staff at those Brazilian Consulates in the US often have a belligerant attitude and seem to enjoy making life more difficult for US citizens in some sort of tit-for-tat for the way they perceive Brazilians are treated at the US Consulates when applying for visas.

Good luck with your visa and happy travels.

This thread had me really worried, but I referred back to the instructions provided by the Embassy handling our Visa, which are on the web page here: http://www.consbrasvancouver.org/tourist_visa.html

Specifically, they say: For the fields "Nome do contato" and "Telefone", write down a contact name and phone number we can reach in case the Consulate must talk to the applicant.

The contact information of my destination hotel is provided in the electronic application form (as is my own contact information), so I'm not really sure why this is required in either case.

Just to let you know that I listed our home contact information in Michigan for "nome do contacto" on the visa applications I sent to the Brazilian Consulate in Chicago.

We received our Brazilian visas in the mail within 2 weeks. No problems and no questions asked.

Feel free to write it the name of Manoel Silva

Then choose any random phone number, such as your hotel, and that's good.

This information is never scrutinized.

Greetings VanDykes4,

Congratulations on receiving your visas!

Are your visas noted as being valid for 10 years (after your first entry into Brasil)?

I ask because my understanding is that now all Brasilian tourist visas are supposed to be good for multiple entries over a ten-year period; but I have recently heard from a couple of friends who got visas with less than ten year validity.

So, I was just wondering if your visas were the 10-year variety or were they something less?

Thank you and safe travels to you!

I did not perceive a belligerent attitude by the Brazilian consulate in Miami...nor did I, or my friends, ever had difficulties. I really do not believe they scrutinize the application all that much - It is just a reciprocal visa policy, and cannot at all be compared to what the US puts Brazilians through to get a US tourist visa. At least for US citizen's it is pretty much guaranteed to get the Brazilian tourist visa, but many Brazilians pay the cost to get the passport and then pay the tourist application fee, just to get denied!

As far as visa timeframes - my friends have gotten a 10 year visa recently. When I applied for my first tourist visa about 6 years ago, it was issued for 5 years. Now, fortunately, I have Brazilian residence (my wife is Brazilian), again the paperwork was straightforward and it was a relatively simple process. Actually I remember a Brazilian consultate guy joking with me during the process - he told me completely straightfaced and serious "You forgot something, there is an additional fee"....with a proper pause and wait for a look of surprise by us, followed by "....for every Brazilian woman you need to bring 5 American women to Brazil, preferrably blonds, but since your wife is very pretty make that 10 in exchange". My wife and I talked and joked with him awhile afterwards, but certainly a good experience!

I have a question: I would be going through the NY Embassy. I thought you had to either apply in person, or if not, you must go through one of those expensive agencies. I am about to do this, as I didnt believe mail was an option. Does anyone know about the NY embassy? I live in NJ & need to get visas for myself and minor. Or if you have another website? thanks
