Wish I had known about this site earlier -- it has been very helpful! We are two ("mature" I think is the word people are using) people coming to Brazil on vacation (a first time visit) in a few weeks. We are starting our trip in Sao Paulo then going on to Sao Sebastiao and Ilhabela for a few nights, and also to Paraty, Ilha Grande and Rio, from where we are flying back to the Boston area in the US. We would be grateful for any advice on getting from Sao Paulo to Sao Sebastiao on December 25. I have looked into taking the Litoranea bus from S.P. Terminal Tiete, which is the most economical option. I would be interested to hear what other's have experienced -- getting to the terminal in SP from the hotel and making the trip by bus. The travel time seems very long -- if I am reading the schedule right it seems to be around a 6 1/2 hour trip, although the guide books indicate a 4 hour bus trip. Are there any other reasonably priced options (pooled van transfer for example) that would involve less time on the road? We are willing to pay a bit more for convenience and less stress, though probably do not want to take on the cost of a private transfer. We also need to get from Sao Sebastiao to Paraty on December 28. Do we need to book bus travel in advance? Is the Util bus the best option for this? Again, any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!
