Capoeira in Salvador

I just started doing Capoeira here in New York and going to Salvador for about a month, My class is Capoeira Luanda which is more close to regional style, I would love to attend a group in Salvador and probably take some private classes too (sorry, I know its not capoeria like but I'm concern about the time since I'm there for work)

any suggestion is really appreciated - OH forgot to say, I also don't speak portuguese! :(

Well I suggest you learn some.

There are a number of schools that provide classes to foreign tourists, do a quick search for 'escola +capoeira+ regional + Salvador'

The most famous is probably Mestre Bimba's school in the Pelourinho

There are plenty of other options. I've frequently seen mestres conducting training with tourists on the beach in Barra and elsewhere.

Another good start point is Forte Santo Antônio Além do Carmo in Santo Antônio, which hosts schools and cultural centre.

Good luck.

Indeed. Actually, I remember being hassled by them one day whilst trying to enjoy a drink with an old friend of mine from Rio No pleasantries just a demand to "make a contribution to the arts". A quick conversation with their mestre sorted that snotty little punk out in very short order. Capoeira is all about respect right?

Make a contribution to the arts? I am by simply ignoring you. That's probably what I should have said. As I recall my actual response was a fair bit more direct and essentially unprintable on this forum :-)
