Only heading up to Manaus for the weekend. Are Malaria pills necessary?

Most Malaria during september ,ocutber pritty dry and lots of mosquitos.

Perhaps I might be permitted to quote from my own guidebook on this occasion:

"A note on malaria (and dengue). Laugh heartily when people tell you there‘s no Malaria (or Dengue) in Manaus, on the Rio Negro, at their lodge/hotel/home etc. It is true that the incidence (on black water) is lower, but it is not true that it does not exist. There is a whole world of difference between having no bullets in the gun and having maybe one. Your decision, of course."

Having said this, statistically at least you are extremely unlikely to catch malaria over a weekend (there - is that what you wanted to hear? :)
