Getting from Mt Fuji to Hakone after climb.

Getting from Mt Fuji to Hakone after climb.

Hi, i'm trying to figure out the best way to get to my ryokan in Hakone, the morning after my Fuji climb on the night of Monday 16th July 2018.

I will be getting a bus from Shinjuku to Fuji 5th Station (Yoshida trail) on the Monday, so have that all planned/sorted.

On the tuesday morning, I was thinking I could hike back down to the 5th station, bus to Kawaguchi station and train from there, but the trains don't seem to be going in the Hakone direction.

Would I be better off sticking to buses?

Would I be better off descending the mountain by one of the more southern trails?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The train from Kawaguchiko to Hakone takes a long time and multiple transfers. The bus is much faster and easier. Take the bus from Kawaguchiko to Gotemba and transfer to the one goes to Hakone (which one to take depends on your destination.)

Another option is to just spend a night in Kawaguchiko. There are several very good onsen ryokans there.

Hi, thanks for your help!

I've booked a night at Hakone Suimeisou, which is walking distance from Hakone-Yumoto station, so I'm thinking I find a bus that goes from Gotemba station to Hakone-Yumoto station.

Is that doable?

The bus from Fuji 5th station to Kawaguchiko, and from there to Gotemba should be pretty straight forward. I'm thinking it's used by tourists enough that we can 'wing it'.

The part that worries me is the Gotemba station to Hakone-Yamoto station trip.

Do you have any pointers for that?

Looking over this plan, I realized I don't have to descend the way I went up!

I can go down the Gotemba trail, and then bus from the 5th station to Gotemba station; it's faster and cheaper and skips out the Kawaguchiko station step. I don't know why I didn't consider that idea before!

I also found the Tozan bus website : https://hakone-tozanbus.jcld.jp/

That shows a bus path of Gotemba > Hakone Sengoku > Hakone-Yumoto Station.

So it looks like I'm all sorted, thanks!

Hi on 27th September I'll be climbing on early morning from Kawaguchi (have a hostel booking on 26th here).

Is it possible to get down from Fuji and go to hakone still despite it being the off season for climbing? Thanks!
