Is there a place to rent bikes in Old Town? Thanks!
See my response to your other question.
There are two bike rentals in Old Town.
Big Wheel Bikes just off of our Waterfront on Prince Street.
a second shop is Wheel Nuts Bike Shop on Montgomery, directly across the street from the Crowne Plaza.
I found this link for their bike rentals...I'd call their shop directly first tho..
Great, thanks! Not sure if we'll have time to bike, but it's good to have this handy.
And, my question related to this is: Is Old Town bike friendly as far as routes and safety? I would love to bike when visiting in June but am concerned about traffic.
Biking is probably the best in the country. As for safety, best to stick with the paths as marked. Rush hour on our little streets can be brutal on two feet or two wheels!
Here is a link to bike paths that now can take you to and from Mt. Vernon and the New National Harbor across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.
Last weekend biked from Capitol Hill past Jeff Memorial, over bridge to Mt Vernon Trail to end and back to Alexandria. The trail is a great ride past airport, Old Towne, thru marshes, along river. This multi use trail was quite busy with bikers, joggers, walkers, dogs, tandem bikes, etc. As for the road riding, there were very many bikes on the road on a Saturday afternoon. If you are comfortable road riding, then with the usual cautions, I would not hesitate. This area is very bike friendly with paths and dedicated lanes. I bike alot but this was my first time in this part of DC/VA. Another great ride is C&O canal but is better with a hybrid.
Bike rental in Alexandria.
The people at BIG WHEEL are awful. My wife and I experienced not one but two indifferent, verging on rude employyee at Big Wheel. If you are a social rider - forget it.
Converse to this is Bike Nutz. Small shop by the Crowne Paza. The folks here are friendly, helpful and dont try and upsell. Bike Nutz for me!
Thanks for the feedback, but are you sure the name of the shop wasn't
That shop was mentioned in the very first answer here and it fits your description as to location.. http://wheelnutsbikeshop.com/1/?page_id=9
As far as I know, there is no shop named Bike Nutz in Old Town and nothing came up in Google or Yelp.
