Quiet an Romantic Dinner in Old Town

My boyfriend and I will be visiting DC and we will be staying in Gaylord National. I was looking for nice restaurants in DC but was advised that it would be wiser to look for food in Old Town. Is there somewhere nice and quiet, preferably quite secluded for dinner? Would like a nice/upscale setting. Thanks!

My recommendations are as follows: Take the shuttle boat from the Gaylord for a nice introduction to Old Town as the boat leaves the docs at the north end of the pier in Washington Harbor. Walk four blocks from the Waterfront to Restaurant Eve around the corner from Hotel Monaco on the 100 block of South Pitt Street. Check the menu in advance and if you are into the tasting menu, reserve now. Some times are booked months ahead. I have found earlier times are fairly available. The Tasting Menu is pricy...but worth it for a splurge and is renown in DC circles and the east coast alike for its menu by Cathal Armstrong. Another choice is Vermillion, also great. I have yet to eat at Brabo, but have heard good things, and the restaurant is gorgeous. Links provided below:

Thanks for the recommendation. Would they have nice views of the city?

Ms.

You asked for quiet and secluded. Old Town Alexandria is an 18th century town where George Washington is ever present. The architecture is colonial. For views, that would provoke a totally different response. Further, quiet would not be the result. There is a bar at the Gaylord that has commanding views of DC (about 5 miles away) from the top floor. Ruth Cris is a steakhouse in Crystal City that has amazing views of the city. Old Town's Chart House is located next to the boat shuttle and has commanding views of the river. I might suggest a dinner cruise of the Potomac if that is really what you are after. The concierge at the hotel can direct you further.

Check out google street view and cruise up King Street yourself so you get a feel for what I'm talking about.

Thanks BB. Have decided to go for either Vermilion or Brabo and then do a cruise another day.
